The City of Phoenix will participate in Smart City App Hack, the international competition to develop apps that present a solution to a global civic challenge. The Smart City App Hack has been initiated by the City of Barcelona to empower citizens around the world to become app makers and create solutions for 21st century cities.
The Phoenix Smart City App Hack is the local portion of the competition and an app acceleration program that will go from the end of June through October. Local app developers, entrepreneurs and residents are invited to submit web or mobile applications that incorporate solutions targeted to improve the five main themes identified as common global challenges: urban mobility, energy and emissions, shopping and retail, culture and tourism and the collaborative city.
The contest will conclude with a City Finale where the five finalists, and all apps submitted through the Online Competition, will compete by pitching live on stage to a panel of judges. Three City winners will be chosen and awarded cash prizes and entrance into the international Smart City App Hack. The Grand Champion will be sent, all-expenses paid, to represent the City of Phoenix at the international grand finale at the Smart City Expo 2015 in Barcelona.
